About Us
About The Project:
S.U.N. – Skydra’s Unity Through Nourishment is a youth-led solidarity initiative dedicated to addressing food insecurity and strengthening community cohesion across Skydra, Greece. Founded by young residents and supported by the European Solidarity Corps, the project emerged in response to the increasing number of vulnerable individuals affected by economic instability and the long-term social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Skydra, refugees, homeless individuals, and low-income families continue to face daily challenges in accessing nutritious food, while many young people seek meaningful opportunities to participate in community service and social change.
S.U.N. brings these realities together through a mission rooted in compassion, dignity, and collective responsibility. We believe that a warm, nutritious meal represents far more than sustenance—it is a gesture of hope, solidarity, and inclusion. By uniting volunteers of all ages, we work to create a community where no one is left behind and where acts of care inspire long-term transformation.
Our initiative focuses on preparing and distributing wholesome meals through a community breadline, forging partnerships with schools, churches, supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, and local organisations to gather food supplies, resources, and support. We engage volunteers of all generations, promote awareness of food insecurity, and foster active citizenship through education, collaboration, and hands-on social action.
Our goals reflect a holistic vision for community well-being:
alleviating hunger among Skydra’s most vulnerable residents,
strengthening intergenerational connections through volunteerism,
empowering youth to lead and participate in social initiatives,
raising awareness about the importance of solidarity,
and building a more inclusive, compassionate, and resilient community.
Behind the initiative stands our Coach, who guides the team through planning, communication, evaluation, and long-term project development. Together, we form a multidisciplinary group of young people with backgrounds in engineering, business administration, accounting, law, project coordination, and youth work. What unites us is the shared belief that small, consistent acts of solidarity can spark meaningful change.
S.U.N. is more than a project—it is a growing movement of hope, unity, and responsibility. Through our collective efforts, we envision a Skydra where nourishment, dignity, and compassion are accessible to all.
